A 16th Century Murder Mystery

It’s 1537, King Henry VIII has abolished the Catholic Church and established himself as the  Head of the Church.  The King, along with his right hand man, Thomas Cromwell is systematically dismantling the monasteries across England and reclaiming their lands.  One of the Cromwell’s commissioner’s is murdered in a monastery in Sussex and Matthew Shardlake is dispatched to solve the murder.  When he gets to the monastery Shardlake encounters more questions than answers.

If you like reading historical fiction this series is great.  Sansom recreates the period and engages the reader with his very fluid writing style.

Dissolution is the first in the Shardlake mystery series.
